My concept of a monsoon came from what I saw in a Bollywood movie. It rained in Mumbai. All day, everyday. For a month. The cook working the oven at the Downtown Pizza Lounge gave me a much different picture of what the AZ monsoon is like. “It’ll be perfectly sunny, well over ninety here, but when you look south you can see the monsoon rolling over the hills and coming straight at the city. It’s not just rain–it’s wind and lightning and thunder, whipping up all the dust and stones. Like a giant mudbowl.”
